Tip Resistant Glasses Cup

Tip Resistant Glasses Cup Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This Eyeglass holder is made with plastic canvas inside. It is made with a base with an oval cup on top of it. It is fast and easy to make and would make a great gift for anyone who wears glasses. The cup is made separately from the base then the cup is tacked to the base.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in color of choice. Red Heart Super Saver in Amazon was used in the example.
1 piece 7count plastic canvas 21x29 threads. Not holes.
1 piece 7 count plastic canvas 26x56 threads. Not holes.
Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends and finishing.

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 5" wide at base x 4.5" high
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the plastic canvas tube first. Bend the long piece of plastic canvas into a tube with the short ends coming together. Overlap the ends by 5 holes on each end. Stitch these ends together using a running stitch along the outer edges of where they overlap. Secure yarn in place. Set aside tube.

Crochet Part of Tube:
RND 1: Ch26. Join w/slst to first ch to form large ring. Be careful not to twist chain. Ch1. Sc in each ch around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in each sc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch1. Sc in each dc around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 4-19: Repeat RNDs 2 & 3 consecutively. At the end of RND 19. Fasten off leaving the ending end about 18" long. Weave the other end in. Turn work inside out. Flatten so the length of yarn is on the right hand side. With this yarn and a needle, whip stitch the opening closed working across the last round. The end must be flat. Not gathered.

Base The base is made of 2 pieces that are stitched together after the 2nd piece is made. Do not fasten off when you are done with the 2nd piece.

ROW 1: Ch16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch1, turn.

ROW 2-13: Sc in each sc across. Ch1, turn. Fasten off and weave both ends in on the first piece only. Weave only the first end in on the 2nd piece. Do not fasten off at the end of row 13 on 2nd piece.

Turn 2nd piece as if you were going to work another row. Pick up first piece and work a round of sc all the way around working 3 sc in each corner, to join these 2 pieces together but before closing, slip the smaller piece of plastic canvas into work. When you are done closing it up, join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work.

Finishing
Place long crochet tube over plastic canvas tube so the open end is lined up with one of the ends of the tube and the plastic canvas is inside. Push the other end of the crochet tube down inside the plastic canvas tube forming a cup. Tack the tube to the base by using the yarn needle and yarn and making sure your stitches go through the holes in the bottom of the plastic canvas tube and through the base to secure the cup to the base. Weave ends into bottom of base to secure.
