Double Single Crochet (dsc)
This stitch is a variation of the Single crochet. It is thicker than the ordinary single crochet and would be best used in dishcloths, heavy afghans, sweaters, scarves and even preemie blankets. It can be used in any pattern that uses single crochet but it would make the item thicker .
For threads Use what ever size hook is recommended for the size thread you are using. Steel works best of course. You can use this stitch for coasters, dishcloths, scarves or anything else you want to have a thick texture.
Suggested materials
- Worsted Weight--For afghans sweaters & sampler squares.
- Worsted Weight cotton--for dishcloths, sweaters, placemats.
- Sport & Baby yarns--For afghans, & layettes.
- Crochet Threads---motifs, placemats, doilies done in rows.

Instructions
As far as I know, this stitch does not exist anywhere else. But I could be wrong. If I am, let me know.
This is what is called a stand alone stitch. You do not need to do a multiple of stitches to create a pattern of this stitch. Like a double crochet or a single crochet. It is a stitch all by itself.
When you do this sitch in the round, it would be a very good idea to turn your work around at the end of each round after joining. It is very difficult to insert the hook into the stitch if you do not turn the work around.
To do this stitch:
Insert hook in back loop of next stitch, draw up a loop, insert hook through both loops of same stitch, draw up a loop and then draw through all 3 loops on hook. That's it.
Any yarn or thread can be used with this stitch.

Random Quick Tip!
Sending Crochet HooksIf you need to send crochet hooks in the mail, you could flatten a paper towel tube, cut it so it is 7" long, then tape one end to seal it. I suggest using Fiber Tape for strength. Then put the hooks inside the tube, they should be wrapped in tissue paper, then seal up the other end. Then you can put this protective tube inside a 6"x9" envelope for sending through the mail. This way they should not work themselves out of the envelope. You could even send them in a business size envelope that is made manilla paper. That way it is not sooo big.
