Joanna's Pencil Cup

This pencil cup is a result from a request from my daughter who has started college. These are the colors she requested and it is fast and easy to make.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in 2 colors*
Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
Empty clean Crystal Light dry powder drink mix container without lid
1/4" paper punch
Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 3" x 5"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitches Used:
Starting Bobble, (stbl): Ch2, yo, insert hook in place indicated. Draw up a lp, draw through 2 lps on hook. yo insert hook in same place, draw up a lp, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Bobble (bl): Yo, insert hook in stitch indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, *yo, insert hook in same stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2lps on hook rep from * until you have 4 lps on hook. Yo and pull through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions
Punch 27 holes around rim of container and set aside.
RND 1: Ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. 8dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (9dc)

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (18dc)

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in next st. *2dc in next st. Dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (27dc) Drop blue but do not fasten off.

RND 4: Join red in same st as slst. Stbl in same st as slst. Ch2. Sk 2 sts. *Bl in next st. Ch2. Sk 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of stbl. Drop red but do not fasten off.

RND 5: Pick up blue, ch1, sc in same st as slst. (Dc in each of the next 2 skpped sts below previous RND working over the 2 chs.) *Sc in next bobble. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 6-13: Repeat RNDs 4 & 5 four times more. Do not drop blue. Fasten off red. Weave ends into back of work. Slip work onto plastic container.

RND 14: Work 1 sc in each st around working through the holes in the container at the same time. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work.

*Red Heart Super Saver in Blue and red were used in the example. I do not have the exact names of the colors because I used scraps.

Random Quick Tip!

Storing Printed Templates
You can save future time by printing off a few copies of the paper bead templates at one time and storing them in page protectors in a 3 ring binder. Then when you need that template again, you will not have to print more off. Just look in your 3 ring binder to see if you already printed some.
