Pompadour Pencil Cup

This pencil cup is actually a cover for an empty frozen juice container or a container from a powdered drink mix. Crystal Light container. It is made with Pompadour yarn and would be a great addition to any teenager's room! It would also make a great gift filled with treats for any occasion.

Materials Needed
Small amounts Baby Sport Pompadour yarn in two colors. MC is main color. CC is contrasting color.
Empty plastic juice container. 5.5" H x 2.5" W
Size G/6 4.5mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness 3mm
Gauge 4dc = .75"
Finished Size: Fits a 5.5"x2.5" juice container
Skill Level: Beginner

NOTE: In this pattern, a sp is referred to the space between dc.

Instructions
RND 1: Ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. work 17 dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Work between stitches in this round where indicated by sp. Ch3. Dc in next dc. 2dc in next sp. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. 2dc in next sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Slst into the next dc and into the next sp. Ch3. Dc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2dc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off MC.

RND 4: Join CC in sp bet 2dc groups. Ch3, dc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2dc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off CC.

RND 5: Join MC in sp be 2dc groups. Ch3. Dc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2dc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6& 7: Slst in the next dc and in the next sp. Ch3. Dc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2dc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. At the end of round 7. Fasten off MC.

RND 8: Join CC in sp bet 2dc groups. Ch3. 4dc in same sp, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of ch3. Pick loop back up and draw through the top of ch3. Ch1. Beginning Popcorn made. Sk next 2 dc. 5dc in next sp, drop loop from hook, insert hook in first dc and then pick up dropped loop, draw loop through first dc. Ch1. Popcorn made. Sk next 2 dc. *Pop in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of first pop. Fasten off CC.

RND 9: Join MC in sp bet pop. Ch3. Dc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2dc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 10-11: Rep rnds 6-7. Fasten off MC.
RND 12: Rep rnd 4. Fasten off CC.
RND 13: Join MC in any sp bet dc groups. Ch1. Sc in same sp. Sk next 2 dc. *2sc in next sp. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work. Slip onto plastic container.

Glue Basting Quilt As You Go Blocks
Here is another way to baste a quilt block when making your quilt sandwiches. I have done this and it works very well! Instead of using spray or fusible batting, you can put dots of liquid Elmer's School glue where you would normally put your safety pins. I would actually put the dots closer together. Think of this, when we use spray basting or fusible batting, there is glue, why not just use the least expensive option. Little dots of Elmer's school glue. You cannot feel the dots when you are quilting and they do not interfere with the needle in the machine. Just use little dots. The action of pressing the glued layers together flattens the glue dots and as long as they are tiny, you will not feel them. Also, the Elmer's school glue will wash out of clothing even after it is set with an iron. Plus you don't have to worry about overspray or breathing in the glue into your lungs. I have also made a glue/water mixture and brushed it on with a sponge brush. That works well also.
