Filigree Crystal Snowflake

This snowflake is fast and fun to make and several can be completed in an evening. Pay close attention to the 3rd round of this snowflake. It is done in a different way.

Materials Needed
Small amount white crochet cotton size 10. Southmaid was used in the example
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
Fabric Stiffener to stiffen snowflake
Styrofoam board
Waxed paper
Straight pins
paper towels
Ornament hanger of choice.

Thread Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: 3"diameter
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. *Ch6. Dc in next ch. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch6.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc, ch3, dc in 2nd ch of the next ch3 sp. *Dc in next dc. Dc, ch3, dc in 2nd ch of the next ch3 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch11. Tr in 9th ch from hook. Sk next 2 dc. Dc in next dc. Ch3. *Dc in same st as last dc. Ch8. tr in tip of dc just made. Sk next 2 dc. Dc in next dc. Ch3. Rep from * around. Dc in starting st. Ch3. Join w/slst to same ch as first tr.

RND 4: Slst in next ch. (Sc, ch5, sc, ch5, sc, ch7, sc, ch5, sc, ch5, sc in ch8 lp.) Ch2. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch2. *Rep bet () once. Ch2. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off. Weave ends into back of work.

Stiffen with fabric Stiffener.
1. Pin waxed paper on board.
2. Pour a small amount stiffener into small dish
3. Dip snowflake in stiffener
4. Using paper towel, dab out excess stiffener.
5. Using straight pins, pin snowflake onto board adjusting shape as needed.
6. Allow to dry at least 2 hours. Overnight is best.
7. Remove pins from snowflake and remove snowflake from board. Attach hanger of choice to 1 of the points.

Tip: Make several snowflakes before stiffening them. Or at least as many as will fit on the styrofoam board.
