Victorian Ball Ornament

Victorian Ball Ornament Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This ball is fun and easy to make and is made in 2 pieces that are laced together around the equator of the ball ornament. It is made with Victorian Christmas yarn.

Materials Needed
20 yds Herrschners Holiday Victorian Christmas Color Name VCTRN XMAS Color No. 0102
20 yds Herrschners Holiday Traditional Christmas Color Name WHITE, Color No. 0001
1 2½" diameter Satin Covered Ball with satin removed. Use one that is no longer looking good.
Size H/8 aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Yarn Thickness: 3mm
Gauge: 5sc=1"
Finished Size: 2½" diameter
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch Used in this pattern. Long single crochet (long sc): Insert hook in sc of previous row, pull up long lp, yo, pull through both lps on hook.

Instructions
Make 2 halves exactly the same but when you fasten off the last round on the 2nd half, cut the end to about 3' long for stitching halves together.

NOTE: You will be dropping each color then picking them up at the end of each round. Do not fasten off between rounds.

RND 1: With white. Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. 12sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop white, pick up multi.

RND 2: Ch1. 2Sc in same st as slst and in each st around. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop multi and pick up white.

RND 3: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Long sc over next sc. *Sc in next st. Long sc over next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop white and pick up multi.

RND 4: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in next st. 2sc in next st. *Sc in each of the next 2 sc. 2sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop multi and pick up white.

RND 5: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in next sc. Long sc over next sc. *Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Long sc over next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop white and pick up multi.

RND 6: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in next sc. Sk next st. *Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Sk next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Drop multi and pick up white.

RND 7: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst and in each st around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off both colors. Weave all ends in.

Assembly. Cut a multi colored piece of yarn about 36" long. Use this to lace the 2 halves together around the equator of the ornament. Make sure the hanger of the ornament is centered through the hole of one piece and the other hole of the other piece is on the bottom. Lace the 2 halves together tightly and weave ends into work. Attach hanger to top.
