Little Shells Easter Egg

This crocheted egg has little shells made up of 3 dc in one stitch and it is fun and easy to make. The most difficult part is stitching up the opening closed after slipping the plastic egg in.

Materials Needed
Size 10 crochet cotton in white and pink. DMC Traditions was used in the example.
Size 7 Steel Crochet Hook
1 plastic egg 2" x 3¼"
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 2" x 3¼"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch Instructions (dcdec) Double Crochet Decrease: Yo, insert hook in stitch next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

Instructions
RND 1: With white. Ch4. 12dc in 4th ch from hook. Join w/slst to first dc.

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in next st. *2dc in next st. Dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. *2dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Ch4. Sk 3 dc. *2dc in next dc. Ch4. Sk 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Drop white but do not fasten off.

RND 6: Join pink in same st as slst. Sc in same st. Sc in next st. (3dc over ch4 sp in 2nd dc of skipped 3dc of previous round.) *Sc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 7: Ch3. Dc in next sc. Ch3. Sk next 3 dc. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. C3. Sk next 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Drop pink but do not fasten off.

RND 8: Pick up white. Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Sc in next dc. (3dc over ch3 sp in 2nd dc of skipped 3dc of previous round.) *Sc in each of the next 2dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 9: Ch3. Dc in next sc. Ch3. Sk next 3 dc. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. C3. Sk next 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Drop white but do not fasten off.

RND 10: Pick up pink. Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Sc in next dc. (3dc over ch3 sp in 2nd dc of skipped 3dc of previous round.) *Sc in each of the next 2dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 11-18: Repeat RNDs 7-10 consecutively, twice.

RND 19: Rep RND 7. Fasten off pink.

RND 20: Rep RND 8.

RND 21: Ch2, dc in next sc. Counts as a Dcdec Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *Dcdec 1. Dc in each of the next 3dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first dc. Slip egg in at this point and finish stitching with egg inside.

RND 22: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Dcdec 1. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dcdec 1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 23: Ch3. Dcdec 1. *Dc in next dc. Dcdec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 24: Dcdec all the way around. Join w/slst to top of first dc. Cut thread at least 6" long and weave through last round to gather up to close end. Weave end in.
