Celtic Star Doily

This doily is fairly easy to make and can be completed in an evening or 2 depending on how fast you crochet. It would make a pretty addition to any decor.

Materials Needed
Size 10 Crochet Cotton
Size 7 Steel Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle for Weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10 thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 8" diam
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch: dcdec: Yo, insert hook in next dc, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, twice. Yo pull through all 3 lps on hook. You will insert hook in 2 separate dc stitches as indicated.

Instructions
RND 1: Ch10. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Ch3, sk next ch. *2dc in next ch. Ch3, sk next ch. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Ch3, sc in next ch3 sp, twice. Ch3. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch3, sc in next ch3 sp twice. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch6. Dc in next dc. (3dc in next ch3 sp. Dc in next sc. Sc in next ch3 sp. 3dc in next ch3 sp. ) *Dc in next dc. Ch3. Dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch6.

RND 5: Ch4. Dc, ch1, 6 times. (Dc in next dc. Dc, ch3, dc in next sc. Sk next 4 dc.) *Dc in next dc. Ch1. dc, ch1, 6 times. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4.

RND 6: Ch5. (Dc in next dc, ch2, 6 times. Dc in next dc. Sc in next ch3 sp.) *Dc in next dc, ch2. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 7: Ch6. (Dc in next dc, ch3, 6 6times.) *Work one dcdec. Rep bet () once. Rep from * 5 times more. Work the following to join the round. Yo, insert hook in next dc, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook. Slst to 3rd ch of ch6 to join.

RND 15: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in each of the next 4 sc. (4dc in each of the next 5 ch4 sps. 4dc, ch2, 4 dc in next ch4 sp. 4dc in each of the next 5 ch4 sps. Glue Basting Quilt As You Go Blocks
Here is another way to baste a quilt block when making your quilt sandwiches. I have done this and it works very well! Instead of using spray or fusible batting, you can put dots of liquid Elmer's School glue where you would normally put your safety pins. I would actually put the dots closer together. Think of this, when we use spray basting or fusible batting, there is glue, why not just use the least expensive option. Little dots of Elmer's school glue. You cannot feel the dots when you are quilting and they do not interfere with the needle in the machine. Just use little dots. The action of pressing the glued layers together flattens the glue dots and as long as they are tiny, you will not feel them. Also, the Elmer's school glue will wash out of clothing even after it is set with an iron. Plus you don't have to worry about overspray or breathing in the glue into your lungs. I have also made a glue/water mixture and brushed it on with a sponge brush. That works well also.
