Filet Snowflake Doily

This doily is the third doily designed without the use of a stitch chart. It is a good pattern to use if you are just getting started with working in filet crochet. It will teach you the basic filet mesh as well as the lacet pattern of filet.

Materials Needed
Size 10 crochet cotton in white or desired color. Southmaid was used in the example
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends

Thread Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: 12" from point to point
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions
RND 1: Ch18, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch8. (counts as 1dc and ch5 sp.) *Sk next 2 chains, dc in next ch. Ch5. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch 8.

RND 2: Ch5.(Counts as dc and ch2 sp.) Dc in next ch5 sp. Ch5. Dc in same sp. Ch2. Dc in next dc. Ch2. *Dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch2. Dc in next dc. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 3: Ch5. (Counts as dc and ch2.) Dc in next dc. Ch2. Dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch2. *(Dc in next dc, ch2. Three times). Dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch2. Rep from * 4 times more. Dc in next dc, ch2. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 4: Ch5. (Counts as dc and ch2.) Dc in next dc, ch2 twice. Dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch2. *(Dc in next dc, ch2. Five times.) Dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch2. Rep from * 4 times more. Dc in next dc, ch2, twice. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch 5.

RND 12: Ch6. Slst in 3rd ch from hook. (counts as dc and picot.) (Dc in next dc. Ch3. Slst in 3rd ch from hook. Ten times.) *Dc, ch5, dc, ch5, dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch3, slst in 3rd ch of ch3. (Dc in next dc. Ch3. Slst in 3rd ch from hook, Twentyone times.) Rep from * 4 times more. Dc, ch5, dc, ch5, dc, ch5, dc in next ch5 sp. Ch3, slst in 3rd ch of ch3. (Dc in next dc. Ch3. Slst in 3rd ch from hook, nine times. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch6. Fasten off and starch into desired shape in your favorite way. You will need to stretch each point to make the doily lay flat and give it it's snowflake shape.

Random Quick Tip!

What Size Hook?
If you are the type to have many projects going at the same time and some of those projects require the same size hook, well what do you do to mark your spot and remember what hook size is needed? Well, Julie Morash gave me the idea of making a marker which would have the size hook on it and then you would stick it in your work. Well I went with this concept and came up with using a plastic tab from a loaf of bread and mark the size hook on it with a magic marker and put it at the last stitch. That way, when you go back to work on the project, you will know what size hook to use for it. Thanks Julie for the inspiration and the idea plant.
