This motif can be used as a coaster as well by using worsted weight crochet cotton if you want it bigger or you can add a single round of sc around for the last round then lace stitch the motifs together for various items such as placemats, doilies or other things.

Materials Needed
Size 10 crochet cotton in blue
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Tapestry Needle

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc = 1"
Finished Size: 3½" across flat sides 4" across from point to point
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Ch8. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3, 2dc in ring. Ch2. 3dc in ring, ch2, 5 times. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. (Ch3. Sc in next ch2 sp. Ch3.) *Dc in each of the next 3 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Slst into the next dc. Ch5, dc in same st. (Ch3. Dc in next ch3 sp. Dc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. Sk next dc.) *Dc, ch2, dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 4: Ch3. (2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Dc in next dc. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2dc. Ch3.) *Dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Slst in each of the next 2dc and into the next ch2 sp. Ch3, 2dc, ch3, 3dc in same sp. (Ch5. Dc in each of the next 2 ch3 sps. Ch5.) *3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6: Slst into the next 2sts and into the next ch2 sp. Ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in same sp. (Ch5. Sk next 3dc. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch5. Sk next 3 dc.) *3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp. Rep bet ()once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work. To prepare this motif for lacing together, work 1 sc in each dc and in each chain around. Work 2sc, ch2, 2sc in each ch2 sp around.
