Snowflake Table Mat

This mat would look great as part of a simple centerpiece which could have a Christmas candy dish sitting on it or even a couple of heavy candles. This mat could easily be made into an ornament by using size 10 thread with a size 6 steel crochet hook or size 20 thread with a size 11 steel crochet hook.

Materials Needed:
White worsted weight yarn. Red Heart was used
Size H or 4.5mm aluminum crochet hook.
Yarn Needle

Yarn Thickness4mm
Gauge: 4sc=1"
Finished Size: 12" from point to point
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Slst into ring, ch4. *Dc in ring, ch4. Rep from * 10 times more. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4.

RND 2: Slst into the first ch1 sp. Sc in same sp. *Ch6. *Sc in next sp. Rep from * 10 times more. Ch3. Join w/ dc to first sc.

RND 3: Ch5. *Sc in next ch6 lp. Ch5. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first ch of ch5.

RND 4: Slst into the first ch5 sp. Ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc in first ch 5 sp. Ch3. Sc in next ch5 sp. Ch3. *2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch5 sp. Ch3. Sc in next ch5 sp. ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Slst into the first ch2 sp. Ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc in first ch 2 sp. Ch3. (Sc in next ch5 sp. Ch3.) Rep bet ( ) once. *2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Ch3. Rep bet ( ) twice. join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6: Slst into the first ch2 sp. Ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc in first ch 2 sp. Ch3. (Sc in next ch5 sp. Ch3.) Rep bet ( ) twice. *2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Ch3. Rep bet ( ) three times. join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 7: Slst into the first ch2 sp. Ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc in first ch 2 sp. *Ch3. Dc in next ch3 sp. (Ch1. Dc in next ch3 sp.) Rep bet ( ) twice more. Ch3.* [2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Rep bet ** once.] Rep bet [ ] around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 8: Slst into the first ch2 sp. Ch3. Work 8 dc in same sp. (3sc in next ch3 sp. 2sc in each of the next ch1 sps. 3sc in next ch3 sp.) *9dc in next ch2 sp. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work. Enjoy!!!

Random Quick Tip!

Coasters
A basic round pattern such as you would use for the above can cover idea, could be used as a simple fast coaster. You could work the last round in reverse single crochet to form a ridge around the permimeter. You could work it as many rounds as needed for your glassware or cans. Variegated cotton yarn would be best for these coasters.
