Family Christmas Stocking

This stocking is big enough to hold small items for each member of your immediate family so you could start a new tradion in your family. Read below the instructions about this new tradition.

Materials Needed:
One 3oz skein each Cherry Red and White Worsted Weight Red Heart yarn.
1 large decoration. I used a gold poinsettia taken from a bouquet of gold poinsettias I bought at Wal-Mart.
Sewing Thread & Needle
Size H or 6.5mm aluminum crochet hook.

Instructions
With Red Starting at Toe
RND 1: Ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. Work 11dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in next st. Ch3. *Sk 1 st. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off Red.

RND 3: Join White in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in next st. (Work the foll in next skipped st. Tr in front of ch3 sp, tr in back of ch3 sp, tr in front of ch3 sp.) *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in next dc. (Dc in next tr. Ch3. Sk next tr. Dc in next tr.) *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off white.

RND 5: Join Red in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. (Work the foll in next skipped st. Tr in front of ch3 sp, tr in back of ch3 sp, tr in front of ch3 sp.) *Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

Pay attention, this is different.
RND 6: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *Ch3. Sk the 3 tr. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off Red.

RND 7: Join white in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. (Work the foll in skipped sts. Tr in first sk st in front of ch3 sp. Tr in second sk st in back of ch3 sp, tr in last sk st in front of ch3 sp.) *Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around.

RND 8: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *Ch3. Sk the 3 tr. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off white.

RND 9: Join red in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. (Work the fol in the 3 skipped sts. Tr in front of ch3 sp in the first tr, tr in back of ch3 sp in the 2nd tr, tr in front of ch3 sp in the 3rd tr.) Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep bet ( ) once. Rep from * around.

RND 10: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *Ch3. Sk the 3 tr. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off red.

Heel Section
Work the heel in rows.
ROW 1: Starting at the 3rd dc after the 3rd ch3 sp in round 12. Join Red in this 3rd dc. Ch3. Dc in next dc. *(Work the fol in the 3 skipped sts. Tr in front of ch3 sp in the first tr, tr in back of ch3 sp in the 2nd tr, tr in front of ch3 sp in the 3rd tr.) Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * One more time. Then rep bet ( ) one more time. ROW 9: Join red in first dc. Ch3. *(Work the fol in the skipped st. Tr in front of ch3 sp, tr in back of ch3 sp, tr in front of ch3 sp.) Sk next st. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Sk next st. ROW 10: Sc in first st. *Sk next st. Sc in next st. Rep from * across. Ch1, do not turn. You should now have 7 sts across. Now you are going to work down the side of the heel then around the last round of the toe, then up the other side of the heel and join w/ the first ch1 in this round. This forms the ankle and the beginning of the leg area of the stocking
I will be referring to each row end as a dc sp. It will either be a ch3 turning ch or a dc worked at the end of a row.

RND 1: Dc in same st as last sc. 2dc in first red dc sp on side of heel. (work the fol in the white row as you would for a ch3 sp before. Tr in front of dc sp on same dc post, tr in back of dc sp on dc post, tr in front of dc sp on same dc post.) 2dc in next white row in dc sp. 2dc in next red row in dc sp. (work the fol in the next red row as you would for a ch3 sp before. Tr in front of dc sp on dc post, tr in back of dc sp on dc post, tr in front of dc sp on dc post.) 2dc in each of the next two white dc sps. Work the foll in the end of row 2 of heel. (Tr in front of dc sp on dc post. Tr in back of dc sp on same dc post. Tr in front of dc sp on same dc post.) Dc in next dc sp.

Front of foot: Now work on the last round of toe. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *(Work the foll in the next skipped st. Tr in front of ch3 sp. Tr in back of ch3 sp. Tr in front of ch3 sp.) Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * once more. (Work the foll in the next skipped st. Tr in front of ch3 sp. Tr in back of ch3 sp. Tr in front of ch3 sp.) Dc in each of the next 2 dc.

Other side of heel: Dc in next dc which is the same as the joining st in first row of heel. Dc in ch3 sp of beg of row 1 of heel. Work the fol in the next row of heel. RND 22: Sc in each st around to the last 3 tr. Ch6, join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off red and weave ends into work.

Sew big embelishment to the front in desired position.

All of us in our family will give something small and under $1.00 or hand made and meaningful. Each item in the stocking will be wrapped with paper that has a note about the item written on it to show it's meaning. For Example: I am going to give my daughter another crochet hook from the ones I have set aside for her. With a note that she is doing a great job learning how to crochet and I feel she is ready for another size hook. She is 11 and just learning how to crochet.

After all of the festivities are over and we are relaxing at the end of the day, we will take this stocking down and pass out the little gifts to each other while listening to Christmas music and having hot chocolate and eggnog with Christmas treats.
