Dainty Pincushion

This pincushion is perfect for those times when you really do not want to pull out your big sewing kit just to replace a button or fix a loose seam. It is made with the Static Stitch.

Materials Needed:
Small amount of each color of size 10 crochet cotton.
Canary Yellow, Pink, white, country blue.
(South Maid Brand was used in the example.)
Scraps or bits of yarn for stuffing.**
Size 7 steel crochet hook.
Thin darning needle.

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Skill Level Intermediate
Gauge: 8 dc=1" (3 rows sc & 2 rows dc =1")
Finished Size: =2 ½"x3"

Work the front of this cushion in the static following the directions below.

At the end of each color, leave a thread long enough to weave into the back of the work.

Row 1: With yellow, Ch 25, (counts as 24+ 1 turning ch.)Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: (Dc in 2nd sc, *ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next st. Repeat from * across ending with 1 dc in each of the last 2 sc.) Fasten off.

Row 3: Join, pink, (Sc in the first 2 sts. Make a de in each of the sk st in the previous row working over the 2 chs. Sc in dc, repeat from * across ending with a sc in each of the last 2 sts. Ch 3, turn.)

Row 4: Repeat ROW 2.
Row 5: Join, white and repeat row 3.
Row 6: Repeat row 2.
Row 7: Join, Blue and repeat row 3.
Row 8: Repeat row 2.
Row 9: Join, white and repeat row 3.
Row 10: Repeat row 2.
Row 11: Join, Pink and repeat row 3.
Row 12: Repeat row 2.
Row 13: Join, yellow and repeat row 3.
Row 14: Sc in each st across. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.

With Blue
Row 1:Ch 25. Work 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2:Dc in 2nd sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 3-11: Repeat rows 1 & 2 alternately ending with a row of sc's. Fasten off. Weave ends into work.

With both pieces, wrong sides together, stitch the two pieces together in the following manner.

Tie white thread onto the top right hand corner correct side facing you. Work 4 sc in corner and 1 in each stitch across. Work 4 sc in next corner and 1 in each row down left side. work 4 sc in bottom left corner and 1 in each st across the bottom.

Stuff the cushion.

Work 4 sc in bottom right corner and 1 in each row up the right side to where the first 4 sc are. Sl st to the first sc. Do not fasten off. Work a second round in the following way.

Ch 3, *1 sc in the next 2 sc, Ch 3. Repeat from * all the way around. Join with a sl st to the first ch of ch 3. Fasten off and weave ends of thread into work.

**If you have no scraps you can use shredded nylon stockings or polyester fiberfill. I used bits of yarn from granny squares for the stuffing.
