Summer Wreath Napkin Ring

Napkin Ring Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This napkin ring is a result of a crochet challenge. A member of the JPF Crochet Club wrote to me about a challenge she had for me. She said she just emptied a transparent tape roll and thought that Julie could design something with it. Since I had already designed a Christmas Wreath using the tape core, I thought why not go ahead and try to design something else with it. She had a napkin ring in mind and this is what I came up with.

Materials Needed
Small amount red, white and blue crochet cotton size 10. Southmaid was used in the example
Size 8 steel crochet hook Boye was used.
Empty Transparent tape roll. ½" wide with a 1" hole.

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: 2" diameter
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: With white. Join thread to ring and work 46 sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Ch3. 4dc in same st as slst. Sk next sc. Sc in next sc. Sk next sc. *5dc in next sc. Sk next sc. Sc in next sc. Sk next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off. Weave ends into work.

The Row of shells should be in the center of the tape roll on the outside. If not, move them so they are.

Now you will be working on the front and back side of the shells just made. You will be working on the threads that go around the ring. Work each stitch over two threads.

RND 1: Join Blue on 2threads any where on the front side. Work 1sc on 2 threads all the way around. Join w/slst to first sc.

Turn work around and repeat with blue in front of the shells on back side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on front side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on back side.
Turn work around and repeat with blue in front of red on front side.
Turn work around and repeat with blue in fron of red on back side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on front side.
Turn work around and repeat with red in front of blue on back side.

You really should work the napkin ring in this order working the front then the back then the front again going back and forth to keep the work balanced.

After you are done crocheting, weave all ends into work.
