Ric Rac PotholderDesigned By Julie A. BolducThis potholder is made in 2 parts, the front and the back. They are made exactly the same then stitched together with the basic sc around the edge. It can also be made in to a hot pad or trivet by just inserting an old CD just before closing up the edges.
Materials Needed
Yarn Thickness: 3mm
Instructions
RND 2: Ch3, 2dc in same st as slst. Ch2. Sk next st. *3dc in next st. Ch2. Sk next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off color 1. RND 3: Join color 2 to same st as slst. Ch1. Sc in each of the next 2 dc. 3dc in skipped st, behind ch2 sp. *Sc in each of the next 3 dc. 3dc in skipped st, behind ch2 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. RND 4: Ch2. Hdc in same st as slst. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. *2hdc in next st. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch2. Fasten off color 2. RND 5: Join color 1 in same st as slst. Ch2, 2hdc in same st as slst. Ch2. Sk next 2 sts. *3hdc in next st. Ch2, sk next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch2. Fasten off color 1. In the next round, Each of the 3 hdc groups will be referred to as a 3hdc shell. You will be working the sc stitches bet the first & second and second & third hdc of each shell. RND 6: Join color 2 in first space of first 3hdc shell. Ch1. Sc in 2nd sp of same shell. Dc in each of the next skipped sts behind ch2 sp. *Sc in each the 1st and 2nd sps of the next shell. Dc in each of the next skipped sts behind ch2 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off color 2. Weave all ends into back of work. Now take both the pieces, put them wrong sides facing each other, then join w/color 1 in any stitch, in the lps that are lined up together. You will work in only two lps, not all 4. Just the inside lps. Work 1 sc in each st around to join the front to the back. If you are using a CD to make a trivet, insert the trivet before closing completely. Fasten off, weave ends in to work.
