Image of Cool Flames Potholder

Cool Flames Potholder

Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This potholder reminds me of the look of a gas stove burner that has been turned on. It is made in two pieces that are crocheted together around the outside. This makes it possible to insert a thick insulating circle of fabric if you want to. But since this potholder is thick by design, it is not necessary.

Materials Needed
1 ball each of 2 colors cotton worsted weight yarn White and green.
Size J/10 or6mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 6½" diam
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions Make 2.
RND 1: With MC. Ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. Work 14dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. 2sc in each st around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 3: Ch4, sk next sc. Sc in next sc. Rep from beg around. Join w/slst to first ch of first ch 4. Fasten off MC. Weave end into back of work.

RND 4: Join CC in first sc behind ch4 loop, on rnd 2, that was skipped. Ch3. Sc in ch4 loop. Dc in same sc as you joined. *Dc in next skipped sc. Sc in ch4 loop, dc in same sc as last dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch1. Sc in each st around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 6: Ch4, sk next sc. Sc in next sc. Rep from beg around. Join w/slst to first ch of first ch 4. Fasten off CC. Weave end into back of work.

RND 7: Join MC in first sc behind ch4 loop, on rnd 2, that was skipped. Ch3. Sc in ch4 loop. Dc in same sc as you joined. *Dc in next skipped sc. Sc in ch4 loop, dc in same sc as last dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and set aside.

Make second one the same but do not fasten off at the end. Instead, lay both pieces together wrong sides facing each other, and work 1 sc in each st around through both front and back at the same time. When you get back to where you started, ch5, and slst in same st as last stitch to form hanging loop. Weave ends into work.
