Over Chain Pencil Cup

This crocheted pencil cup is made in such a way where you work a dc over the chain one space in the previous round, hence the name. It is fun and easy to make and would make a great bazaar item.

Materials Needed
Luster sheen in 2 colors
Size G/6 or 4mm aluminum crochet hook
1 empty Crystal Light container short size
1 ¼" paper punch

Yarn Thickness: 2mm
Gauge: 5dc=1"
Finished Size: 4½" x 2¾"
Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate

Instructions
RND 1: With main color, (mc) ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. 9sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc. (9sc)

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (18dc)

RND 3: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. 2sc in next st. *Sc in next st. 2sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (27sc.)

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2sts. *2dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (36dc)

RND 5: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. 2sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 dc. *2sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (42sc)

RND 6: Working in back lp only, ch3, dc in next sc. Ch1. Sk next sc. *Dc in each of the next 4sc, ch1, sk next sc, 8 times. Dc in each of the last 2 sc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Drop main color but do not fasten off. You will pick it back up later.

RND 7: Join contrasting color (cc) in same st as slst. Sc in same st. Sc in next st. Dc in back lp only of skipped stitch in previous rnd working over the chain one space. *Sc in each of the next 4 dc. Dc in back lp only of skipped stitch in previous rnd working over the chain one space. Rep from * 7 times more. Sc in each of the last 2 dc. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 8: Slst into the next st. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Ch1. Sk next st. *Dc in each of the next 4 sts, ch1, sk next st, 8 times. Dc in last st. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

Drop cc & pick up mc.

RND 9: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Dc through both lps in skipped stitch in previous rnd working over the chain one space. *Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Dc through both lps in skipped stitch in previous rnd working over the chain one space. Rep from * 7 times more. Sc in last st. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 10: Repeat RND 8.
Drop mc & pick up cc

RND 11: Repeat RND 9
RND 12: Repeat RND 8
Drop cc & pick up mc.

RND 13: Repeat RND 9
RND 14: Repeat RND 8
Drop mc & pick up cc.

RND 15: Repeat RND 9
RND 16: Repeat RND 8
Drop cc & pick up mc.

RND 17: Repeat RND 9
RND 18: Repeat RND 8
Drop mc & pick up cc.

RND 19: Repeat RND 9
RND 20: Repeat RND 8
Drop cc & pick up mc.

RND 21: Repeat RND 9
RND 22: Slip work over bottom of cup and work a sc in each st around but work the stitches in the holes in the pencil cup as they will fit. Some holes will have 1 stitch and some holes will have 2 stitches. Just work them in as you need to.
