Star in a Star Ornament

This star ornament works up really quick and you could make up a whole bunch for your local bazaar or to use as package toppers. I know that my family loves to receive the crochet ornaments I tend to make every year. To me it is not Christmas without crocheted ornaments.

Materials Needed:
Small amount Knit-Cro-Sheen in or size 10 crochet cotton in Cream.
Size 7 Steel crochet hook
Stiffener of choice.

Thread Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: =3½""
Skill Level: Easy

Cluster (cl)
You will be working over 3 dc to complete this stitch.
Yo, insert hook in first st indicated. Draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook. * Yo, Insert hook in next st. Draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook. Rep from * one more time. yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions

RND 1: Ch4. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. 2dc in ring. Ch1. *3dc in ring. Ch1. Rep from * 3 more times. So you have a total of 5 3dc groups. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch2. Yo, insert hook in next dc, draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook, yo, insert hook in next dc, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook, yo and draw through all lps on hook. Ch 10. Slst in 6th ch from hook. Ch4. *Cl on the next 3dc. Ch 10. Slst in 6th ch from hook. Ch4. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch2.

RND 3: Ch6. Dc in same st as slst. Ch3. 3dc, ch3, 3dc in next ch6 lp (shell made). Ch3. *Dc, ch3, dc in top of cl. Ch3. Shell in next ch6 lp. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch6.

RND 4: Slst to the 2nd ch. Sc in in ch3 sp. Ch 5. Work the foll in next shell. (Dc, ch3, dc, ch5, dc, ch3, dc.) Ch5. *Sk next ch3 sp. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch5. Work the foll in next shell. (Dc, ch3, dc, ch5, dc, ch3, dc.) Ch5. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave all ends into work.

Stiffen your star then attach a hanger to one of the points.

You will need the following items to stiffen your star.
Stiffener of choice.
Small plastic or glass dish
Rust Proof Pins
Waxed Paper
Drying board. See below for suggested boards.

     Dip your pieces to be stiffened in the solution and lay them out on a waxed paper covered board that you can put pins into. Insert pins into the project such as a snowflake and shape as needed until you reach the desired look. Make sure to pin every point down that needs it. Allow to dry.
