Spider's Web Hot Pad

This hot pad could also be a potholder by just leaving out the CD. I would recommend using cotton yarn instead of acrylic though for a potholder.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in white
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in black
Old CD
Size I aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc = 1"
Finished Size: 6"diam
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. 8 Sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in next st. *2sc in next st. Sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. *2dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 3 sts. *2dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 3 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in next st. *2sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off. Set first one aside.

Make another one the same way but on RND 2, work in only the back lps of each st around.

Web

RND 1: Join black to 2nd circle on front lp. Ch1. Sc in same st. 2sc in each front lp around. You need to end up with 18 sc around so you may have to add 2 more sc anywhere in the round. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Working on black only from here on out. Ch7. Sk 1 sc. *Dc in next sc. Ch4, sk 1 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch7. You should have 9 ch4 sps around.

RND 3: Ch9. *Dc in next dc. Ch6. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch9.

RND 4: Ch11. *Dc in next dc. Ch8. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch11.

RND 5: Ch13. *Dc in next dc. Ch10. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch13. Do not fasten off.

Finishing Assembly: Place both circles together wrong sides facing each other. Using the black yarn, Sc in any sc through inside lps only on both layers. Dc in dc of web, sc in same st as last sc. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. ([Sc in next st, dc in next dc on web, sc in same st as last sc.] Sc in each of the next 6 sts.) Rep bet () 2 times more. Rep bet [] once. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Insert CD into circle. Rep bet () 4 times more. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.
