Spiral Illusion Motif

This motif can be used as an applique for a potholder, a motif in a tablecloth, placemat or large doily. It is fairly fast and easy to make and would make a wonderful take-a-long project in the summer.

Materials Needed
Small amount size 10 crochet cotton. Southmaid color#401 Orchid Pink was used in the example
Size 7 steel crochet hook
tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Thread Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: 4¼"x4¼"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions
RND 1: Ch8. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch5. *Dc in next ch. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Ch3. *2dc in next dc. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Slst into the next dc. Ch3. Dc in 1st ch of the next ch3 sp. Ch5. *Sk next dc. Dc in next dc. Dc in 1st ch of the next ch3 sp. Ch5. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Slst into the next dc. Ch3. Dc in 1st ch of the next ch5 sp. Ch7. *Sk next dc. Dc in next dc. Dc in 1st ch of the next ch5 sp. Ch7. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 3 chs. Dc, ch3, dc in next ch. Dc in each of the next 3 chs. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dc in each of the next 7 chs. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. To use this motif to make a table cloth or a large doily, I suggest hand stitching them together using a whip or overhand stitch.
