Shell Stitch Filet BookmarkDesigned by Julie A. BolducThis is the very first bookmark I designed for the JPF Crochet Club web site. It starts off as a basic filet crochet strip then shells are worked around the perimeter.
Materials Needed
Yarn Thickness: 10thread This bookmark is made with filet crochet and a variation on the standard shell stitch. The special abbreviation used in this pattern is (end sp) meaning End Space. This is explained in the pattern itself. Row 1: (Foundation Row)Ch 13, sc each ch across. Ch 3, turn. Row 2: Dc in next sc. * ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next st. Repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in last st. Rep from * 2 more times. Dc in last st. What you have now is a row that has 2 dc on each side and 2 dc in the middle separated by 2 sts. Ch 3, turn. Row 3-25: (This is the Pattern Row) Dc in top of dc. * ch 2, dc in dc. rep from * 2 times more. Dc bet last dc & ch 3. Ch 3, turn. Row 26: Sk first dc. Dc in dc, ch 2, dc in dc, ch 3, sc bet last dc & ch 3. Do not turn. What you have now is 3 spaces that will be worked on at the very end. Outer Edge Now you will work the outer edge of the bookmark with a variation on the standard shell stitch. Work on only the very outer edges where you chained 3 and worked the last dc in each row. Refer to these as End Spaces (end sp).
6 dc shell st. *Work a shell in the next end sp. Sc in next end sp. Rep from * across to the last end sp where you will end with a shell st in the last sp.
You should now be at the very first sc of Row 1. Work across the bottom of this row with the following. Work a shell in the first end sp. * Sc in next end sp. Shell in the next end sp. Rep from * across to the other end. End with a sc in last end sp.
Work a 7 dc shell in ch 3 sp. Work the following into the ch 2 sp. Designed on December 30, 1997. Copyright © 1997 By Julie A. Bolduc f110001 |
